Built for Sherwood Park winters and summer storms

Summer storms, long winters and snow. What a Sherwood Park roof has to take.

Sherwood Park sits on Edmonton's eastern edge, where a summer thunderstorm can bring hail and heavy rain in a single evening, and winter means deep cold, snow on the roof for months and freeze-thaw at both ends of it. East of the urban area, Strathcona County turns to acreages in aspen woodland. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each, and where it stops.

Storms

Hail and heavy rain in one evening

On June 15, 2025 a thunderstorm brought hail to Sherwood Park, and Environment and Climate Change Canada reported 60 to 75 mm of rain there, the highest totals in the Edmonton area. The Edmonton-area hailstorm of August 2, 2019 caused about $90 million in insured damage. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. No roof is hail-proof, and the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in).

Rain

Water has to go somewhere

When 60 mm of rain falls in one storm, every valley, chimney and skylight on a roof is tested at once. Interlock panels interlock on all four sides, and our crews flash every chimney, vent and skylight as part of the installation. Gutters and downspouts that can carry that much water are quoted as their own line.

Freeze-thaw

Deep cold, and the thaw either side of it

A Sherwood Park winter is long and cold, and the weeks at either end of it bring days that thaw and nights that freeze. Water that gets into an asphalt shingle or a cedar shake freezes and opens it further. Aluminum takes up no water and cannot rust, and there is nothing in the panel for frost to split.

Snow

Snow slides; ice dams start in the attic

Snow comes off smooth aluminum more readily than off shingles, so we plan snow guards over doors, decks and driveways at the quote. Ice dams form when heat escaping into the attic melts snow that refreezes at the cold eaves. Ice damming is excluded from the material warranty, so we look at your attic insulation and ventilation with you instead of promising a roof will stop it.

Wildfire

Acreages in the aspen

East of Sherwood Park, toward the Beaver Hills and Elk Island National Park, many county acreages sit among aspen woodland and grass. FireSmart Alberta recommends Class A roofing and advises against wood shakes and shingles. We can build the roof as Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly, with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood under the panels. No roof is fireproof.

Permits

Permits come from Strathcona County

Sherwood Park is not a separate town: it is an urban service area of Strathcona County, so any permit for a roof here is the County's, as it is in Ardrossan and the rest of the county. Lamont, Bruderheim and Tofield have their own town offices. Whether a roof needs a permit depends on the work, so we confirm it for your address before the crew starts.

Sherwood Park roofing: 166 roofs in our job book. Here's where.

Sherwood Park roofing from Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd., the certified Interlock® installer for Alberta. Sherwood Park is where we have installed more roofs than anywhere else in the Edmonton region outside Edmonton itself: in older neighbourhoods such as Glen Allan, Broadmoor Estates and Mills Haven, in Brentwood, Nottingham and Heritage Hills, and in newer Summerwood and Clarkdale Meadows, and on acreages across Strathcona County. The panels are made in Canada at the Interlock plant in Delta, BC, and installed by our own crews. We have no Edmonton-area office: consultations are on Zoom or at your home.

Why Sherwood Park homeowners choose aluminum

One roof for a Sherwood Park house. One company behind it.

Our crews

Installed by our own crews

Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. installs every roof itself. The company that measures and prices your Sherwood Park roof is the one that puts it on and handles any service call afterwards, through abservice@interlockroofing.com.

Profiles

Slate, by a wide margin

Slate is the profile Sherwood Park homeowners have chosen most often in our job book; the legacy Interlock Shingle and Cedar Shingle come next. Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam are also made, in nine colours, all in Canada. Every profile needs a roof slope of at least 3/12.

Older homes

Re-roofing an older house

Interlock panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre, so an older frame carries far less than it would with concrete tile. A single layer of asphalt may be roofed over only if our inspection finds it suitable; cedar always comes off first.

Condos

Condominium corporations

Sherwood Park townhouse and condo complexes are run by condominium corporations under Alberta's Condominium Property Act, often with a reserve fund study behind the roof decision. We give the board one profile and colour for every building, the product documents it needs, and both warranties in writing.

Warranties

Two warranties, in writing

The manufacturer, Interlock Roofing, gives the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty on the aluminum and its finish, for as long as the original purchaser owns the home, transferable once, workmanship excluded. We add our own 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty on the installation.

Price

One price, before you sign

We measure the roof, look at the decking and attic where we can, and give you a fixed price in writing. The consultation can be on Zoom, with family elsewhere joining in, or at your home in Sherwood Park.

Recycled

Up to 95% recycled aluminum

And the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

Straight answers

Sherwood Park roofing questions, answered plainly.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock metal roofs in Sherwood Park?

We do. Interlock Metal Roofing (Alberta) Ltd. is the certified Interlock® roofing contractor for Alberta, founded in 1999, and we install every Sherwood Park roof with our own crews. Our only office is in Calgary; there is no Edmonton-area office, so the consultation is on Zoom or at your home. The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. We are BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, Baeumler Approved, and a 2026 GuildQuality GuildMaster Award winner.

Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Sherwood Park?

Sherwood Park is part of Strathcona County, so permits here are the County's, not a town's. Whether your roof needs one depends on the work, for example structural repairs to the decking. We confirm what applies to your address before we start, and include any permit in the written quote.

How does a metal roof handle Sherwood Park hail and storms?

Well, but no roof is hail-proof. On June 15, 2025 a thunderstorm brought hail and, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada, 60 to 75 mm of rain to Sherwood Park. Interlock's Slate, Shake, Cedar Shingle and Mediterranean Tile aluminum panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, listed by Intertek under Delta Building Products. Very large hail can dent metal, and the material warranty excludes hail larger than 38 mm (1.5 in), so storm damage is a matter for your home insurance. Ask your insurer how they treat an impact-rated roof; we can give you the listing.

Which communities does sherwoodparkroofing.com cover?

Sherwood Park and the rest of Strathcona County, including Ardrossan; Lamont County, including Bruderheim, Lamont, Mundare and Andrew; and Tofield and Beaver County. Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan and the rest of Northern Alberta are on edmontonmetalroofing.com. It is the same company, the same crews and the same warranties.

Will a metal roof stop ice dams on my Sherwood Park house?

No roof covering stops ice dams on its own, and ice damming is excluded from the material warranty. Ice dams form when heat escaping into the attic melts snow that refreezes at the cold eaves. At the consultation we look at your insulation and ventilation with you and tell you what we see.

What does a metal roof cost in Sherwood Park?

Our cost page shows real contract prices from the Interlock® roofs we signed in the Edmonton and Northern Alberta market in 2025 and 2026. Treat them as a rough guide: prices vary from job to job with structural and other conditions, and an in-home roof consultation is required for an accurate price. The consultation and the written quote are free.
